Don’s Party

It is October 25, 1969, election day in Australia, and Don is having a party to celebrate the likelihood that the conservatives will lose power after 20 years of rule. But people of all political persuasions have been invited and, as the evening progresses, the guests get down to the real business of the evening: personal confrontation and sex. The news that the conservatives have won again affects the guests only mildly, and the essential superficiality of the liberal political commitment becomes clear as the revelry grows more abandoned and selfish. This earthy, boisterous social drama is quite frank both verbally and visually, and represents another new direction in the increasingly creative Australian cinema.
