This gorgeous film-poem is the first feature for Russian director Victor Nord, who emigrated to Israel a few years ago. Shai K. Phir (award-winning star of The Policeman and Daughters, Daughters) plays a pious old man who is resisting pressure to sell his enclosed garden to land developers. Seeking a sign of help from heaven, he mistakenly takes in a young mute girl, believing her to be an angel. His faith and hope become involved with his inability to accept her as a human being. American actress Malanie Griffith plays the sheltered young girl with grace and sensitivity, and visually the film is a marvelous array of color.

Later to find fame with the amnesia-tinged film noir update Memento, British director Christopher Nolan was nominated for the SKYY Prize in 1998 for his first feature Following. Nolan shot the film about a writer who stalks strangers, on weekends over the course of a year on a budget of $6,000.
