Shown with The Serpent and the Cross. Riju Ramrakha in person.Larry is a young man who has schizophrenia, constantly hearing voices from the past, present—and the future. He has been “adopted” by Bert, a boozing, gambling greyhound trainer, and together they pursue their aspirations with often humorous results. Larry plans to win a million dollars and settle down with his true love and, for Bert, winning enough money off his greyhound to retire will be just fine. Director Riju Ramrakha, also a Sydney doctor, enables us to see the inner workings and turmoil of schizophrenia. We also see glimpses of friendships among people on society’s edge in this complex, insightful film centered around a superb performance by Tony Harvey as Larry.
