The Love Game

Froth, charm and gaiety sparkle on the crest of the French New Wave. High spirits and comic enjoyment make a welcome entry as 27-year-old director Philippe de Broca achieves spontaneity from a love story written by its leading actress, Gèneviève Cluny, 26. She plays the young girl living with an irresponsible painter. He is happy in his present uninhibited state but she longs, at least, for a child to weld the affair. When an old friend seems to enjoy the idea of usurping his place with an offer of marriage, the comedy makes an elegant whirl. It won the Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Bear award in 1960.
