Jeanne Moreau in person. The first film written and directed by Jeanne Moreau, Lumière establishes the great actress as a new creative force on the other side of the camera as well. The film focuses on four actresses, each at a different stage of life and of career. Jeanne Moreau plays Sarah, the main character through whom we meet the other protagonists (including an appearance by Keith Carradine). The four women explore the affectional and professional areas of their lives, seeking understanding with others while learning to balance the needs of their art with those of their personal lives. Feminist without militancy, Lumière blends the woman’s point of view with a broad humanism that confirms our respect for an actress and introduces us to an important new writer/director.
