This intimate portrait of the Belgium-based a capella group Zap Mama features music derived from Zairian polyrhythms and Pygmy yodeling, fused with European pop sensibilities. Miziké Mama examines biracial and bicultural issues, as Maria and the six other mixed-race Zap Mama women tell their stories. The result is a refreshing blend of great music and thoughtful, soulful musings about race, culture and cultivating one's roots.
