Hilary Clarke in person.A married couple seeks professional help for their out-of-control daughter, only to find that they’re the ones undergoing treatment, in this provocative British television documentary, a ratings smash in its native country. Fred and Diane are ready to send their seven-year-old daughter Georgina into a home for troubled children, but decide on one last alternative beforehand: the behavior programs of psychologist Warwick Dyer. Dyer decides that it’s Fred and Diane who are the problem, not Georgina; if they can change, so will she. No anger, no smacking: The couple must unlearn seven years of bad parenting and hope to overcome Fred’s statement that, “It’s hard to feel warm and loving to a child who seems to want to destroy you.” Diane even admits to hating Georgina, a fact borne out through her inability to even kiss her goodnight. Gathering record ratings in Britain, Bad Behaviour was also one of the most critically well-received television documentaries of the year, with The Times of London calling it “a humbling, chilling film for any parent to watch.”
