Franka Potente, Benno Fürmann in person.Run Lola Run was all about speed and adrenaline and the everyday world conspiring against its heroes. In The Princess and the Warrior the action moves into the inner world of two linked lives as Tom Tykwer delivers another rapturous meditation on love’s power to harness fate. Soothing the patients in a psychiatric ward, Sissi (Lola’s Franka Potente) is a popular yet distant nurse. One fateful afternoon, she is struck down by a truck. In a trademark Tykwer moment, time stands perfectly still as she savors her last breath, until Bodo, a former soldier on the run from the police, seeks refuge under the truck and saves her ebbing life. Shaken by this strangely not-so-accidental meeting, Sissi searches for her reticent savior until fate steps in and another “chance” encounter defines their mutual destiny. Tykwer’s evocative music, ingenious camerawork and piquant colors dazzle in this urban fairy tale that confirms his standing as Germany’s most innovative contemporary filmmaker.
