A rural-flavored look at French-speaking Cajuns. Like the catfish simmering on a backyard fire and the free-wheeling music of the Balfa Brothers and Mark Savoy, Blank takes his time with the film and is rewarded with priceless moments—at an outdoor party, a smiling man yanks out a bad tooth with pliers—details that have made his films some of the richest cultural portraits in American cinema.
