Roger Andrieux attended. This wonderful gem of a film provides one of those special opportunities to discover fresh new talent in a rare state—unpretentious, honest and disciplined. This funny and meaningful story of teenage love and middle class repression avoids all the clichés and sensationalism that these subjects usually bring out in filmmakers. Fifteen-year-old honor student Marc falls in love with Martine, a seventeen-year-old department store clerk whose father was Spanish. As good as they are for each other, his parents disapprove and start throwing obstacles in their way. Marc relies on his older brother for advice and help, but his brother is going through a moral crisis of his own. Everyone involved in this production is perfectly suited to his task, and Roger Andrieux joins Claude Miller and Andre Techine as a major new director in French cinema.
