Three Men in a Boat, the second British picture presented during the 1957 San Francisco Film Festival, is a light-hearted comedy about three foolish young men who endure various embarrassments while they take a boat trip through England on their vacation. Handsomely photographed in color, the three wear some marvelously absurd blazers, are harassed by the antics of a fox terrier named Montmorency, and are discovered swimming without their bathing drawers by young ladies. Stern mothers frown upon them, all in the spirit of jolly good fun, with tea and cricket playing a pretty prominent part. Laurence Harvey, David Tomlinson and Jimmy Edwards and a covey of English beauties are involved, but—for those who remember the book—Uncle Podger never hangs his picture, nor is there that superb incident of the man with the cheese on the train.
