Wa Islamah marks the United Arab Republic's first entry in the San Francisco International Film Festival. The color film, depicting the defense of Egypt against the Tatar invasion, comes from a still young though very promising film industry. The rousing production is full of the pageantry, luxury, intrigue, and brutality of the ancient Egyptian kingdom and the Tatar invaders. Direction is by the American, Andrew Marton, an old hand at effective spectaculars. He has to his credit the famous chariot race sequence in Ben-Hur. Lobna Abdel Aziz, who stars as Jihad, is a former exchange scholar.
