This offbeat tragicomedy has been the box office hit of the year in Sweden. Popular leading man Gosta Elkman stars as a troubled young writer who tries to escape from both his personal anguish and the bleak Swedish winter by joining an ordinary tour group en route to Cyprus. Once arrived, he gives way to his pent-up despair and engages in a comical and bizarre display of anti-social behavior that leads him to jail and psychiatric observation. Once released, he is shunned by the pretty tour guide and most of his fellow tourists, but is befriended by three older women and an Irishman who support him in his efforts to repair and reconstruct his life on his own terms. Both funny and sad, the film features a strong supporting performance by Sif Ruud, last seen as the disillusioned social worker in the 1977 Festival hit Summer Paradise.
