Shown in Stolen Ground, a special program of Golden Gate Award–winning works by Bay Area Asian-American filmmakers. Michael Magnaye in person. This group of works by Bay Area directors raises issues surrounding Asian-American identity, politics and culture in new and perceptive ways. The wry documentary White Christmas explores the legacy of Spanish and American colonialism in the Philippines. A peripatetic visual tour of mega-malls, theme parks with artificial snow, family reunions and gay drag bars, the film offers a series of incisive critiques on a hybrid culture that has reconciled the sacred with the spectacular.
