Louis Malle appeared as subject of a tribute. Alexandra Stewart also attended screening.Louis Malle, whose Murmur of the Heart and Lacombe, Lucien highlighted recent Festivals, makes a complete change of pace with this strangely surreal film set somewhere in the future. While the world is devastated by a civil war between the sexes, a young girl escapes into a weird house inhabited by a bedridden old woman and two nearly androgynous siblings. The late Theresa Ghiese (the grandmother in Lacombe) stars with Alexandra Stewart and Joe Dallesandro, and Cathryn Harrison (Rex’s granddaughter) makes an impressive debut as the intruding girl. Filmed in English, this sensual science fiction of the near future is a fascinatingly original must.
