Spike Lee
Comments: Attended world premiere screening of She\'s Gotta Have It at the Palace of Fine Arts. When the Marina district suffered a blackout, Lee rose to the stage and entertained the crowd until the power came back on and his film could continue. Crooklyn closed the 1994 Festival. In 2007, Lee received the Film Society Directing Award.

In 1996, Harvey Keitel was the first recipient of the Peter J. Owens Award, honoring “brilliance, independence and honesty” in acting. Honest he was. During the clip show at his tribute Keitel, unhappy with one of the clips, began waving his arms and shouting until the screen went black. The screen lit up with a new clip and the tribute continued.
