Late addition. Reported to be the first Dutch feature shown in the U.S. A party sponsored by the Dutch consulate was held outside the theater which closed Union Street with several hundred people having Dutch beer and cheese.
An enigmatic country doctor tends a provincial village in Holland at the first of the century. He is friendly with the humble people and knows and understands their secrets. Dr. Van Taeke also has his own strange secret—when his wife dies he determines to bury her in his garden to keep her near him. He and their sons share the uneasy knowledge. The burgermeister later demands the dismissal of the doctor, offering him a payment. The doctor sets fire to the money and goes on his way from the town to which he had dedicated 25 years of his life.
