A witty, engaging, thoroughly entertaining documentary on the great names in international chess and what makes them run. Playwright Fernando Arrabal provides commentary suggesting political, religious, sexual and psychological interpretations of their personal eccentricities and professional gamesmanship. The film makes lively use of vintage Hollywood clips of, among others, chess games featuring Bette Davis as Queen Elizabeth, and Max von Sydow in The Seventh Seal.
