Shown as part of three-film tribute to Jakubisko. Juraj Jakubisko in person. The Millennial Bee, unlike Jakubisko's 1969 film Birds, Orphans and Fools which was banned for over twenty years, won prizes at many international festivals and was named best Czechoslovakian film of the ’80s by that nation's film critics. The film recounts the ultimately tragic saga of a family in a remote corner of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, from the late 19th century to the troubled years after World War I. Josef Króner, still remembered by U.S. audiences for his stunning performance in the Oscar-winning Shop on Main Street, plays the family patriarch.
