Inspired by a hometown invitation to commemorate his 60th birthday with a public reading, Testament traces the poet from his origin through childhood, learning to love and lifework, to his own imagined death. Visited by ancient numinous images, shadows, tricksters and angels, gifted with visions, Broughton testifies to a life discovered sometimes in joy, sometime in terror. Broughton’s testament is to the eternal delight of being—here, now, alive.

At the 1978 SFIFF, Paul Mazursky received a tribute at the Palace of Fine Arts. Apparently, the facility’s janitorial staff had not been notified, and the padlocked doors of the Palace had to be cut so the filmmaker and his audience could be let in.
