Bound by the Wind is a documentary on the international citizens' campaign to stop nuclear weapons testing, and the controversy surrounding a comprehensive test ban. The video examines the strongest and most compelling arguments from activists, experts and government officials supporting and opposing a ban. However, the central characters in the story are U.S., Soviet and South Pacific "downwinders”—people directly affected by radiation from nuclear testing who have become united and dedicated activists in this international campaign. Their stories are poignant, hopeful and empowering. Bound by the Wind provides chilling context to the downwinders' stories by using a variety of archival material to provide an overview of the history of nuclear testing and its impact on indigenous and local people.
